Forgotten Remnants

Forgotten Remnants

Distant memories scattered inside my mind,
the litter from past laughter and pain
forgotten remnants of time that remain
as barriers that my heart lingers behind.
A heart that loved and lost, battered, and scarred,
the stains no soap and water can remove
ingrained by years to leave another groove,
agony's welt where loving senses charred.
Dark empty places yet love lights a flame,
a dream whispered by a sweet tender voice,
once more the heart and mind must make a choice,
the old battle that always ends the same
For it is only when I let myself feel
the joy of love, my pain begins to heal
