Joan the Wad

Joan the Wad
Form: Cornish Verse

When later than dawn's first hour
farmer finds she's turned milk sour
with dance last night.
She's Joan the Wad, piskie queen
fair of skin and dressed in green
mischievous sprite.
The piskies are small, they say,
no more than a mouse are they
yet three feet tall.
And with wand or amulet
maid's heart for ye they will get
as love is all.
Kernewek pride in piskie charm
merry mischief brings no harm
so wear her well.
Token of luck, make ye glad
for it comes from Joan the Wad
and piskie spell
