Meter Matter by Lawrence Eberhart

Constrained by form a sonnet forces rhyme
And rhyme without some meter is bad verse
Like Paul and Mary lacking Peter – worse
Discord will sometimes shout to me, ‘Watch out!’
My deafness frequently obscures that shout
And bumps appear that other readers hear
I clearly want to make them disappear
The sonnet forms I must complete this year
Demand I gain a better ear for beat
So poems written end up sounding sweet
Per chance this write, will give me cause to cheer
The message, boldly put, may save the day
Although one stumbles once along the way
