Form: American Sonnet
A lover such as I in later age
Recalling the lost passions of my youth
Of my lust replaced by wisdom and sage
As with an idle pen, a staring look
Uncertainty remains within love’s truth
Attempting seductive words in poet’s book
The words of the heart that now seem uncouth
At my age, can love truly come to be
And so I sit here in my reading nook
Can a brighter future be mine to see
Or is love and lust something age forsook
And should love only be a young man’s truth
I think not as love now means more to me
And passion was nothing much in my youth
