The Morning Ahead

Form: 5 couplets of blank verse

The early morning drifting through the garden
A cooling breeze waltzing with white roses
A growling in my guts says ‘hey breakfast’
The time for toast and Marmite overdue
I still feel the lonely of last night’s dream
The silent response as I called your name
But, damn, now I have the washing to do
Returning the sheets to their pure crisp white
And I will be swearing before lunchtime
As always, I can’t reach the washing line
