Form: Blank Verse Sonnet

Within the quiet of a winter’s night
When snow still lingers outside the front door
Crisp silence broken by the crackle-pop
As flames caress over the coals and logs
The sound that decorates the cold stillness
With a warm embrace and a mug of tea
A welcome place around the homely hearth
As my love and I play a game of cards
The scent of stew cooking in the oven
That tempts the taste buds with thoughts of dinner
A hunger grown relaxing by the fire
But hunger grows beyond the need for food
For the other ways for us to keep warm
And we climb the stairs to our cosy bed
