Where We Used to Be

Form: Australian Sonnet

A drifting of thought that crosses the mind
Remembering when is like déjà vu
Recalling the place that we once both knew
The one place that no map can ever find
For it was ours, the place we used to be
Simply there was no you or I, just us
In blissful memory there was no fuss
A distant place where the loving was free
And we’d dance the tango on the sea strand
To the rhythm of the waves on the shore
That lay beneath our feet as a dance floor
Or we’d walk for miles along the beach sand
With the sea shimmering silver moonlight
For in memories everything was right
