Through all those years of wasted shame
I learned to give my heart to love
And not to yield to ways of hate
To hold my dreams and play the game
To rise in beauty and see above
The bigotry that seemed my fate
Behind the tears of patient thought
I knew my day would come to shine
I would see truth within her eyes
As in her love I would be caught
Her beauty then forever mine
For in her eyes there’s no disguise
